Located in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, Shawmont Elementary School was originally constructed in 1929 with Gothic detailing. Our A/E team determined that the educational program would fit in the existing building without additions.

The media center will be enlarged. A technology-driven science lab and a new technology lab will be renovated to support the educational program. ADA upgrades, including a new elevator, will help students with disabilities navigate the facility.

Other projects are being driven by the deteriorating building infrastructure. Health and Safety upgrades will include roof, door and window replacement; interior finish updates; ADA upgrades to restrooms; plumbing, HVAC and electrical system upgrades; lighting system upgrades; fire alarm upgrades; and life and safety improvements.

The $6 million renovation project is part of Philadelphia's $1.6 billion school construction initiative.
