Main Street Town Center Client: Project:
Construction Cost: Completion Date: Development was initiated at Main Street, a 67-acre mixed-use development, with the Town Square Building The updated traditional architecture of the building features arched windows, a shingled hipped roof, covered porticos and a 74-foot high clock tower. The exterior walls are red brick in a running bond pattern interrupted at the windows where soldier courses provide a frame. Brick pilasters with masonry capitals ornament the corners of the building and frame the entrances. The building is surrounded by brick pavers and a brick and black iron fence. The building's image is captured in a rear reflecting pool bridged by a gazebo. The two-story structure initially served as a marketing center. Since completion of the development, it has been deeded to the residents for community use. The Main Street vision included a vibrant “downtown” which could draw upon the best of our urban heritage as well as the technological sophistication of an Epcot Center and “joie de vivre” of Disney World. The Concept Plan also grew out of a desire for separation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and an intent to create a 24-hour per day community which would take financial advantage of the costly infrastructure. The plan centers on a great plaza from which pedestrian streets radiate and return. Vehicular circulation is accommodated on perimeter roads servicing structured parking garages located between the pedestrian loops. The mixed-use concept extends not only to multiple-uses on the 67-acre site, but also to mixed-use within buildings. This work resulted in the writing of the townships' GB-2 mixed-use zoning ordinances by the architect and his team.
